Tinazzi Ca de Rocchi Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore Montere 2019
This wine can be cellared for up to 7 years and enjoyed without decanting.
The Tinazzi family has a long history of winemaking, and in 1968 they established Cantina Tinazzi in Cavaion Veronese, Verona. Soon after, in 1984, they began exporting their wines internationally, and in 1986 they purchased the Tenuta Valleselle estate in Bardolino. More recently, they have expanded their winemaking endeavors across Italy, acquiring the Feudo Croce estate in Puglia and Poderi Campopian in Sant’Ambrogio Di Valpolicella.
Ca de Rocchi is their line of Valpolicella wines, crafted with an emphasis on rich, ripe fruit and smooth tannins. This particular wine, Montere, is made in the traditional Ripasso style using Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella grapes sourced from various hillside vineyards at elevations between 150-300 meters above sea level. Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes are carefully crushed and destemmed before being vinified in stainless steel tanks. During the winter, the wine undergoes a second fermentation, or “repasso,” where it is passed over the grape skins previously used to make Amarone wines.
The final stage involves maturation in 5-20 hectoliter French and American oak casks for 12 months. This process creates a luscious, full-bodied wine bursting with flavors of cassis, red cherry, and ripe plum. On the palate, it offers an abundance of soft tannins, a smooth texture, and a lingering finish.
