Stephane Usseglio Chateauneuf Du Pape Fragments 2020
This wine is ready to enjoy now, but with the potential to age gracefully for up to 20 years in your cellar. To allow its full complexity to shine, decanting for an hour is recommended.
The Usseglio family has been crafting wines in the Southern Rhône Valley since 1948. It all began with Francis Usseglio, who emigrated from Italy and established the family’s winemaking legacy. His son Raymond expanded the estate’s vineyards, and today, Stéphane carries on the tradition. Their 24 hectares of vines are cultivated organically, reflecting a deep respect for the land.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape Fragments is a captivating blend led by Grenache, with harmonious additions of Syrah, Mourvèdre, Counoise, and Clairette. The grapes are sourced from various plots, showcasing the diversity of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape terroir. To preserve the wine’s vibrant fruit character, fermentation takes place in a combination of concrete eggs and clay amphorae.
This wine is both lively and fragrant, bursting with intense aromas of red fruits like mulberry and blueberry, complemented by notes of Mediterranean herbs such as thyme, marjoram, and lavender, with a hint of licorice. On the palate, it’s deep and dynamic, offering a delightful fruit intensity and a full body. The tannins are well-integrated, and the finish is long, fresh, and persistent.
This wine is a wonderful match for Greek-style roast lamb.
