Querciabella’s Italian meaning, “beautiful oak,” alludes to the lush forests bordering the estate’s cherished vineyards. Established in 1974 by trailblazing winemaker Sebastiano Cossia Castiglioni, the winery is presently recognized as a premier Chianti producer, boasting 74 hectares of vineyards encompassing several of the region’s most exceptional plots. Querciabella also excels in sustainability; it was among the first Italian wineries to embrace fully organic practices in 1988 and further adopted biodynamic methods in 2000.

This remarkable red is esteemed as an exemplary Chianti Classico Riserva due to its extraordinary winemaking and attractive pricing. It is crafted from Querciabella’s finest Sangiovese parcels in Greve, Radda, and Gaiole in Chianti, which undergo microvinification to ensure optimal control over the final blend. Each plot contributes unique attributes, with Greve grapes imparting freshness, Radda providing firm tannins and dark fruit, and Gaiole adding ripe fruit and acidity.

The wine’s various components are aged in French oak barrels for 16 months, with only the most superior lots selected for the final cuvee during blending. Subsequently, the wine undergoes further maturation in the bottle for several months before release. The outcome is a full-bodied, robust red brimming with ripe cherries, baked earth, and subtle notes of savory rosemary and spice on the lingering finish.
