Neumeister Gemischter Satz Sarmat 2023

SKU: GW24-10-0205

The Sarmatian period refers to the geological epoch 12 million years ago, during which the subsoil of the landscape around Straden was formed through limestone deposits. It is this Sarmatian gravel, mixed with volcanic pegmatites, that shapes the precise, elegant, and mineral character of the wines.

A lot of work is necessary to bring out this character. Organic cultivation, old vines, hand harvesting, extended maceration times, gentle and slow aging in the cellar, and spontaneous fermentation ensure that you can taste the origin of the wine.

In the case of this Gemischter Satz (field blend), whose vineyards were planted in the 1970s with Müller Thurgau, Goldburger, Scheurebe, Pinot Blanc, Welschriesling, Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and other varieties, this leads to a very unique wine with notes of gooseberries, papaya, orange, and lime, salty and nutty aromas, and a hint of herbal tea and bread crust, held together by harmonizing acidity. A wine that anyone with even a little bit of a sense of adventure should try.
