El Enemigo Malbec 2020
This wine can be cellared for up to 8 years. There’s no need to decant it before serving.
El Enemigo was founded by two of Argentina’s most prominent figures: Alejandro Vigil, the chief winemaker at Catena Zapata, and Adrianna Catena, a historian whose passion for wine stems from her father, the renowned winemaker Nicolas Catena. United by their shared love of literature and philosophy, they decided to create their own wine, offering a unique new interpretation of some of Argentina’s classic grape varieties.
This delightful Malbec is produced at Piedemonte al Sur in the Lujan de Cuyo sub-region of Mendoza, located a short distance from the foothills of the majestic Andes Mountains. The grapes for this cuvée are cultivated at an elevation of up to 1478 meters above sea level. These high-altitude conditions help ensure optimal ripeness and contribute to the grapes’ aromatic complexity and freshness.
Once in the winery, the grapes undergo maceration and fermentation in stainless steel tanks before being aged for 15 months in 100-year-old French oak foudres. This gentle approach to winemaking helps create a lively and vibrant fruit-forward wine with abundant dark berry notes, complemented by soft tannins and a long finish with hints of oaky spice.
