Domaine Zind-Humbrecht was established in 1959 through the union of two long-standing winemaking families. While the Humbrecht family had been cultivating grapes in the Alsace hills for generations, they primarily sold their fruit to other producers. This changed with the marriage of Léonard Humbrecht and Geneviève Zind, marking the beginning of a new era for both families.

Throughout the 1960s and 70s, Domaine Zind-Humbrecht dedicated themselves to revitalizing the Alsace wine region. They acquired several abandoned prime vineyard sites, some of which have since become recognized as Grand Cru vineyards. Rangen de Thann, a vineyard of exceptional quality located in the southernmost tip of Alsace, is one such treasure.

This Riesling Grand Cru shines in the glass with a vivid, deep yellow hue. The nose is explosive, with captivating notes of flint, gunpowder, and apple. On the palate, flavors of lemon, lime, and green apple skin intertwine with a slightly viscous, saline texture. What truly sets this wine apart is its remarkable depth of stony minerality and smoky notes. It’s bone dry throughout, culminating in a long, exhilarating finish.

This is a first-class example of one of Alsace’s premier vineyards, making it a perfect choice for a special occasion or long-term cellaring. While it’s certainly worthy of enjoying on its own, it also pairs beautifully with cheeses like Camembert and Brie or creamy sauces.
