Domaine Raymond Usseglio & Fils Cuvee La Part des Anges Chateauneuf Du Pape 2022
This wine is ready to enjoy now, but it also has the potential to evolve beautifully for up to 20 years in your cellar. And to truly experience its full complexity, decant it for an hour before serving.
Domaine Raymond Usseglio is a true Rhône Valley institution, officially founded in 1964 by Raymond and Danielle Usseglio. But the story really begins in 1999, when their 22-year-old son Stéphane took over the family business.
The estate sources most of its grapes from the prestigious Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, where they cultivate 18 hectares of vines. Stéphane has embraced a variety of winemaking techniques, from concrete tank fermentation to aging in clay amphorae, to craft a diverse range of cuvées. Under his leadership, the domaine transitioned to biodynamic farming and achieved full organic certification in 2015.
“La Part des Anges” is a Mourvèdre-dominant red blend with a captivating smoky bouquet of cedar, licorice, and violet. The alluring wood and spice notes come from aging in new oak barrels. Grenache (20%) and Syrah (10%) round out the blend. On the palate, it’s juicy and fresh, with vibrant flavors of redcurrant, cranberry, and dark stone fruits like plum. Hints of citrus and a saline note linger on the long, satisfying finish.
“La Part des Anges” is a wonderful match for spiced vegetable dishes. Try it with stuffed peppers, a flavorful Moroccan tagine, or even a simple grilled steak.
