Costa Lazaridi Chateau Julia Chardonnay 2023
This vibrant Chardonnay is delicious now, but it can also be cellared for a few more years to develop further complexity. There’s no need to decant it before enjoying.
With its luminous straw-yellow color and hints of green, this Chardonnay is truly captivating. The bouquet is a lively mix of floral and white fruit aromas, with white flowers, pineapple, and banana most prominent, all complemented by a subtle citrus background. Chateau Julia is crafted without oak aging, allowing the warm, sunny character of its region to shine through.
Domaine Costa Lazaridi was established in 1979 when Costa Lazaridi, the founder, planted the first modern vineyard in Drama, Greece. The winery is known for its innovative approach to Greek winemaking and its iconic wines, many of which are made with indigenous grape varieties. Since 2001, renowned wine consultant Florent Dumeau has lent his expertise to the Domaine.
This Chardonnay is refreshingly pure and crisp on the palate, with a beautifully balanced acidity. Flavors of ripe pear, green apple, and tropical fruits create a fruit-forward experience, enhanced by a clean minerality. The finish is long and memorable. Before bottling, the wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged on its lees for several months. It pairs wonderfully with chicken in a white sauce, Greek cheeses, and seafood dishes.
