Costa Lazaridi Amethystos Red 2022
This wine is ready to be enjoyed now, or you can cellar it for up to 20 years to allow it to further develop. Decanting for about half an hour before serving is recommended.
Located in the Drama region of Eastern Macedonia, Domaine Costa Lazaridi has been crafting some of Greece’s most prestigious wines since 1986, when its modern winery was built. They use both international and indigenous grape varieties. The company has garnered over 600 awards in international competitions for its wines, which are organized into four distinct families: Amethystos, Chateau Julia, Oenotria Land, and Domaine Costas Lazaridis.
Costa Lazaridi Amethystos Red is a blend made predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, with the addition of Merlot and the indigenous Agiorgitiko grape. The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, 25% of which are new. This aging process ensures a harmonious balance between the fruity aromas of the grapes and the subtle notes from the oak.
This wine has an intense and brilliant purple-red color. The bouquet is complex and captivating, revealing aromas of ripe berries, sweet spices, plums and chestnut jam, dried fruit, and coffee. On the palate, it is full-bodied and harmonious, with a round and velvety texture complemented by subtle oak influences. Flavors of ripe fruit and licorice add to its complexity. It has a full body and soft tannins, culminating in a warm and persistent finish. This is a full-bodied wine that pairs well with red meats, particularly lamb chops or shanks, beef stew, or intensely flavored soft cheeses like Brie or Camembert.
