Chateau Purcari Rara Neagra de Purcari 2022
This wine can be cellared for up to 8 years and is ready to be enjoyed upon opening, without the need for decanting.
Chateau Purcari is located in the southeastern region of Moldova, just 30km from the Black Sea. The estate boasts a long and distinguished history, tracing its origins back to 1827 when Emperor Nicholas I of Russia officially recognized it as Moldova’s first winery. Throughout its history, the estate has garnered numerous prestigious awards for its exceptional wines, including a gold medal at the Paris World Exhibition in the 19th century.
In recent years, Purcari has continued its winning streak, collecting a series of medals at the Decanter World Wine Awards, including gold for their Rara Neagra de Purcari. This full-bodied, flavorful red wine is made from grapes grown in the estate’s vineyards, situated 110-185 meters above sea level. The vineyards benefit from a unique microclimate, enjoying abundant sunshine and the cooling influence of the nearby Black Sea.
To ensure the highest quality, the grapes are carefully hand-picked and vinified using traditional winemaking methods passed down through generations at the estate. The wine is then aged for 6 months in French oak barrels, adding complexity and nuances of baking spice and toasted oak to its rich dark fruit character. The result is a powerful and expressive Moldovan red.
