Chateau Purcari Pinot Noir de Purcari 2022 Moldova
This wine can be cellared for up to 7 years and enjoyed upon opening without the need for decanting.
Although Moldova gained a reputation in the 20th century for mass production of everyday table wines, the country has a long and rich winemaking heritage that stretches back thousands of years. Chateau Purcari, officially established by Tsar Nicholas I in 1827, holds the distinction of being Moldova’s oldest winery.
Purcari enjoyed a golden age in the 19th century, earning gold medals for its wines both domestically and at the prestigious Paris World Exhibition. In the 21st century, the estate is once again rising to prominence, thanks to its impressive performance at the Decanter World Wine Awards, where it garnered numerous gold and silver medals, including a Best in Show award for one of its white wines.
This elegant Pinot Noir is crafted from estate-grown grapes cultivated near the Black Sea. The proximity of the sea provides a cooling effect, helping to preserve the freshness and aromatic intensity of the grapes. The grapes are hand-harvested and vinified using traditional local techniques, followed by 12 months of aging in French oak barrels. This process yields a graceful and refined medium-bodied red wine with vibrant notes of ripe cherries, raspberries, and plums that linger harmoniously on the palate.
