Chateau Purcari Freedom Blend 2022 Moldova
This unique red wine is a blend of grapes from Moldova, Ukraine, and Georgia, showcasing the diverse viticultural traditions of these countries. The dominant grape is Bastardo, complemented by the Georgian Saperavi and a touch of the indigenous Moldovan Rara Neagra. All the grapes are sourced from the Chateau Purcari estate, located near the Black Sea, and meticulously hand-harvested to guarantee quality.
Following harvest, the grapes are vinified using traditional local techniques, and the resulting wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. This process creates an intense and exceptional red wine with a distinctive character. It exhibits abundant notes of dark cherry, blackberry, and cassis, interwoven with hints of red pepper, leather, and earthy forest floor. Its firm tannins and full body make it an excellent wine to savor now with hearty red meat dishes or to cellar for up to a decade to allow its flavors to further develop.
Chateau Purcari holds the distinction of being Moldova’s oldest winery, with a history that dates back to an official decree issued by Tsar Nicholas I in 1827. The 19th century marked a golden age for the estate, as its exceptional wines earned medals throughout Europe. More recently, Chateau Purcari has experienced a resurgence in both domestic and international markets, garnering numerous awards at the Decanter World Wine Awards in 2019 and 2020.
