Chateau Purcari Academia Saperavi 2020 Moldova
This wine can be enjoyed now or carefully cellared for up to 10 years. While there’s no need to decant, it’s best to open the bottle about half an hour before serving to allow the wine to breathe and express its full aromatic potential.
Chateau Purcari is currently the most prestigious winery in Moldova, exporting its wines to over 25 markets worldwide. Located in southeastern Moldova, near the Dniester River and close to the Black Sea, the winery benefits from a unique ecosystem that is particularly favorable for grape cultivation. In 2010, Purcari introduced Alb de Purcari, a new line that has garnered numerous international awards and accolades. In 2012, the company expanded its collection to include an ice wine made from frozen Muscat Ottonel and Traminer grapes.
Academia Saperavi is the quintessential expression of the Georgian grape variety of the same name, reinterpreted through the unique terroir of Purcari. This results in an authentic wine of remarkable finesse, with only 6,000 bottles produced. This number is significant as it represents the estimated number of years since the first recorded use of amphorae in winemaking in Georgia.
This expressive red wine displays an intense ruby color with violet reflections. The bouquet is filled with explosive aromas of prunes and ripe red and black fruits. On the palate, it offers a full, opulent experience, with velvety tannins and a long, satisfying finish. It pairs wonderfully with pork skewers or liver.
