This wine is ready to be enjoyed now, but you can also cellar it for up to 15 years to allow it to mature and develop further complexity. There’s no need to decant it before serving.

Chateau La Nerthe is one of the oldest estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with a history dating back to at least 1560 when it was founded by the Tulle de Villefranche family. Today, the property boasts over 92 hectares of vineyards spread across 57 different plots. These plots are planted on the sandy clay soils and large “galets” stones that are characteristic of the region. While Grenache accounts for the majority of the plantings (around 62%), all 13 grape varieties permitted in Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines are grown here, with an average vine age of over 40 years.

To craft their classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape red, the grapes are meticulously hand-picked and sorted to ensure exceptional quality. In the winery, the fruit is fermented in vats and then aged in large oak casks and barrels for 12 months before the final blend is assembled. The wine then rests for an additional 6 months before bottling.

When you pour a glass of this Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the first thing you’ll notice is its striking deep inky red color and captivating aromas of blackcurrants, dried violets, and ripe figs. On the palate, it offers a cascade of rich dark berry flavors, followed by savory notes of cedar, spice, and dried herbs, which come from the oak aging. The wine’s excellent balance and structure, combined with its tannic power, make it a wonderful pairing for rich red meat dishes like stews, braised meats, or game.
