Chateau de Meursault Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2022
Suitable for cellaring up to 10 years. Decanting is not mandatory, but can be done for up to 30 minutes before serving.
Chateau de Meursault, with a history tracing back to the 11th century, has been an enduring presence in the Burgundy landscape, predating many of the trees and vineyards that grace its fields. Today, it is under the stewardship of Olivier Halley. Alongside manager Stephane Follin-Arbelet, he has dedicated the past decade to overseeing the estate’s conversion to fully organic farming practices.
The chateau is nestled in the heart of the Meursault appellation. However, the estate encompasses 65 hectares of vineyards in total, spread across the most desirable parcels of the Côte de Beaune region. This Bourgogne Pinot Noir is a blend, assembled from the fertile vineyards of Savigny and the robust plots of Pommard.
Aromatic notes of ripe strawberry, raspberry, and plum emanate from the bottle, complemented by subtle hints of baking spice, pepper, and lilac. While the grapes were sourced from three different plots, all were cultivated in stony soil on exposed hilltops. With high acidity, this wine exhibits strikingly fresh flavors on the palate, brimming with notes of pulpy red berries, vanilla, bay leaf, and hints of toasted nut. Its tannins are refined and well-structured, making it worthy of some bottle aging. Pair it with grilled meats or a dish coated in an umami-rich gravy.
