Burrowing Owl Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
This wine can be cellared for 15 years or more. It is recommended to decant it for an hour before serving.
The Burrowing Owl Cabernet Sauvignon presents a vivid scarlet hue in the glass, accompanied by a generous bouquet of dark summer fruits, cocoa, dried herbs, and orange peel. As the wine breathes, you’ll also discern notes of smoked meat and freshly baked dough. This is a gorgeous red wine from an unexpected location – British Columbia, Canada.
Founded in 1997 by Jim Wyse, Burrowing Owl Estate Winery has garnered numerous awards over the years. Gold medals at the Mundus Vini Spring Tastings and the National Wine Awards of Canada have solidified the winery’s position as a leading producer of quality Canadian wine.
Strongly influenced by the Cascade mountain range, Burrowing Owl is situated on the northernmost edge of the arid steppe terroir that contributes to the viticultural significance of British Columbia’s southern neighbor, Washington. This terroir expresses itself on the palate, with pronounced notes of graphite minerality, ripe flavors of blackberry, cherry, and cassis, and an undercurrent of pungent spice. Aged in a combination of French and Hungarian oak barrels, it is a dry, full-bodied wine with a long finish, driven by an oaky tannic structure. Consider pairing it with a tender rack of lamb, eggplant parmigiana, or meats seasoned with rosemary and thyme.
