Albert Bichot Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru Les Malconsorts 2020
This wine can be enjoyed now, or you can cellar it for up to 20 years to allow its full potential to unfold. There’s no need to decant, but opening it about half an hour before serving will allow it to breathe and express its complex aromas.
Albert Bichot is a prominent name in the French wine industry, with a long and influential history in Burgundy. Founded in Monthélie in 1831 by Bernard Bichot, this family-run business is now in its sixth generation. The company owns over 100 hectares of vineyards throughout Burgundy, divided into six prestigious estates, including Domaine du Clos-Frantin in Nuits-Saint-Georges.
This exceptional Premier Cru from Vosne-Romanée, “Les Malconsorts,” takes its name from a likely dispute between “bad consorts” over the ownership of these lands. The word “consorts” in Latin refers to communal property, and the prefix “Mal” suggests that individuals acted dishonorably towards these lands that they held in common. The grapes for this wine are sourced from vines with an average age of 35-40 years, located within a 1.75-hectare parcel near legendary vineyards such as Romanée-Conti and Richebourg.
This splendid Pinot Noir, aged in oak barrels for 14-18 months, reveals subtle oak notes on the nose, complemented by captivating fruit aromas and hints of black pepper. On the palate, the wine is fresh and vibrant, with silky tannins and an elegant expression of flavors. It is an exquisite pairing for roast goose and game birds.
