Albert Bichot Morgon Les Charmes 2020
Relish it now or cellar for a few more years. Decanting is discretionary, up to 30 minutes before serving.
Les Charmes is a lively, medium-bodied red wine hailing from the globally renowned Beaujolais appellation. Crafted entirely from Gamay grapes, it bursts with aromas of blackberry and cranberry jam, violet, tilled earth, and a captivating blend of spice and smoke. The fruits were harvested from verdant sloping hills situated just west of the village of Morgon.
The name Albert Bichot carries significant weight. Having inherited the family winery in 1996, he descends from a long lineage of winemaking Bichots (and Alberts), stretching back to the early 20th century. In 1912, another Albert Bichot established a cellar in the town of Beaune, forever altering the family’s destiny, and indeed, the fate of Burgundy itself. Today, the Bichot family possesses six estates, encompassing some of the most exceptional vineyards in the region.
This wine showcases a quintessential Beaujolais succulence on the palate, accompanied by opulent notes of blackcurrant jam, spice, and luscious hedgerow fruits. The Les Charmes vines flourish approximately 400 meters above sea level on lean, stony soils, fostering remarkably concentrated fruit flavors. If you are venturing into the world of Beaujolais, Albert Bichot presents an outstanding starting point. This wine is best savored in its youth, paired with grilled meats, pungent cheese, or herby chicken.
