Albert Bichot Morey Saint-Denis Premier Cru Les Sorbets 2018
Relish it now, or cellar for up to 10 years. Decanting is not mandatory, but can be done for up to 30 minutes before serving.
Albert Bichot is a cornerstone of Burgundy’s wineries, crafting an array of sophisticated, expressive wines from the region’s iconic grapes – Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Maison Albert Bichot’s history in the area stretches back to 1831 when Bernard Bichot initiated wine sales in Monthélie. Currently, the winery is under the stewardship of Albéric Bichot, a distinguished winemaker with six generations of expertise and heritage to draw upon.
Morey-Saint-Denis is primarily devoted to the Pinot Noir grape, and none capture the terroir more beautifully than those cultivated in the Premier Cru vineyard of “Les Sorbets.” The name derives from the French term for rowan trees, “sorbiers,” which still grace the scenic landscape today.
The wine unfolds with a fruity bouquet, showcasing notes of wild raspberry, sour cherry, and strawberry, complemented by earthy hints of leather, forest floor, and oak. On the palate, “Les Sorbets” displays an excellent structure and a touch of tartness, with swirling flavors of redcurrant, raspberry, cranberry, and licorice. The finish is fruity and persistent. With some bottle aging, more pungent aromas will emerge on the nose, alongside subtle spice flavors. Consider pairing this wine with refined meat dishes or fine semi-soft cheeses, such as Comté or Gruyère.
