Albert Bichot Jean Bouchard Chablis 2020
Savor it while young, or cellar for a few years. Decanting is unnecessary.
The narrative of Jean Bouchard stretches back over a century and a half, originating in the mid-19th century. Throughout the years, the winery expanded in both scale and prestige, fostering a close relationship with Albert Bichot winery, culminating in its acquisition by the Bichot family in 1955. Their unwavering commitment has molded Jean Bouchard into what it is today – a revered Burgundian establishment boasting an impeccable selection of wines.
This white wine hails from vineyards across Chablis, Burgundy’s northernmost region. It offers a remarkable tasting experience and serves as an excellent introduction to the steely, mineral-laden wines of this renowned terroir.
A pronounced mineral character is apparent from the outset of this 100% Chardonnay wine. Anticipate subtly saline notes on the nose, accompanied by wet stone and a medley of invigorating fruits. These notes persist onto the palate, which is characterized by crisp acidity and a well-defined structure. Green apple, lemon, pear, and melon intermingle with hints of honey and butter, acquired from 6 months of aging on the lees. The wine’s mineral essence resurges forcefully on the extended finish. Serve it slightly chilled, alongside goat’s cheese, poultry in a creamy sauce, or an assortment of mildly briny seafood.
